Network topological effects on the macroscopic fundamental Diagram

Network topologies are considered to be the fundamental factors that govern network’s macroscopic diagram (MFD) and performance. Despite its significance, this domain remains underexplored. This study employed empirical data as evidence examine explicit connections between network parameters of a specific MFD, in form Underwood’s model. Sixty-three 1 × km dense urban networks were sampled Hong Kong. The models estimated based on taxi Global Positioning System (GPS) data. results reveal free-flow speed decreased with average number junctions per unit distance, which captures frequency network-induced stop-and-go vehicle motion. optimal density degree normalized by trafficable area, represents intensity conflicts traffic streams. A spatially variable model was subsequently established.
